Maintaining information governance with a mobile workforce

Chris Britton - 4 May 2016

Yesterday Objective kicked off the 2016 User Groups in Wellington. VP of Objective Connect, Rob Mills, delivered the update on the recent developments for Objective Connect and the future roadmap.

A key focus of the presentation was the recently released Objective Connect for iPhone and iPad (see previous post here). Rob explained how the app simplifies navigation and provides the ability to access documents offline (a great feature for anyone about to jump on a plane). Importantly the security that our users have come to expect from Objective Connect is maintained by including document encryption within the app itself.

Rob also went on to explain how the app enables teams to do more in the field. When integrated with a Document Management System (DMS) such as HP TRIM, Objective ECM or MS Sharepoint, Object Connect provides field workers access to critical documents and files. For assessment officers working for a local council and managing Development Applications / Building Consents, a secure workspace can be created directly from the DMS, containing all of the files that they need to do their job.  Best of all photos and videos from a site visit can be uploaded directly from the app. The content automatically synchronises with the DMS back at the council - ensuring a complete record of the assessment is retained and is filed in the correct location.

This type of functionality talks directly to anyone who cares about information governance and maintaining a 'single source of truth'  within their organisation. As soon as you put roadblocks in front of a field worker who is adding content to a DMS, they invariably won't do it.

  • Objective Connect for iPhone and iPad is available now from the App Store.
